In SimpliPlan, you can create material areas on any room surface, such as the walls, floor and ceiling. Material areas can be used to create individual tile or material designs in a plan, the separation of areas, as borders and more. Material areas can also be drawn in Room mode.

Create material area
In Materials mode:
- Under the Materials tab, click Create material area (rectangle), Create material area (drawn) or Create material area (as line).
Or, in Room mode, in the panel on the left, under Material areas, click one of the icons.
- Move the mouse over the desired surface, for example a wall, the floor or ceiling. The currently selected surface will be highlighted by a dashed red line. Hold the SHIFT key on the keyboard to place freely.
Note: To deselect a tool, in the Tool control dialog box, click the Undo/Cancel icon:

Left-click to select the start point for the material area.
Note: A preview of the material area is shown highlighted by a dashed red line.
- Move the mouse to draw the desired shape and left-click again to confirm.
Note: If using the Create material area (drawn) tool, users can continue using left-click to draw the desired shape.
You can now alter the shape and properties of the material area using the menus located on the right side of the screen Positioning and Polygon:
Positioning
Under Positioning, you can adjust the location of the material area by using the icons or entering new values into the Space left, Space right, Space top and Space bottom fields.
Note: The Shift step length field determines the distance moved when using the Move selection up, Move selection down, Move selection left and Move selection right icons. |
Polygon
Under Polygon, you can adjust the size of the material area in by entering new values into the Width and Height fields, the total area is displayed in the Area field. Under Polygon, you can also click the Edit polygon button. Using this tool:
- You can left-click the measurements of the material area, shown in blue, and enter a new value into the box. Press Enter on the keyboard to confirm.
- You can click and drag the points, shown as red squares, to alter the shape of the material area.
- You can add new points by double-clicking along the red dotted lines that outline the dimension of the material area.
Note: Points can be deleted by left-clicking to select them and pressing the Delete key on the keyboard.
- Under Tool control, in the dialog box located at the bottom right of the screen, you can use the icons to Delete, Cancel and Apply the changes.
